Language can be used to gain power over people and status from certain people or groups it can also be used to gain respect if used appropriately
Everyday we are around different people, either it's our closest friends our family or new people we meet everyday in the gym, for example you would reply to your freinds comfortably and maybe throw in a joke every now and then but in a diffrent environment like the gym if you meet a new individual you would talk to them with respect and without a joking type of talk and eventually if you will soon have respect for them and they will respect you, then at that point you can make jokes and make fun of eachother because you are in a comfortable state. But if you meet an individual and you have a joking type of tone towards them they might take it offensively and take it as a threat. So in the end we have to know what our surroundings are and adapt to them to gain power,respect and status with other individuals.
